GREEN BAY - Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretart Reggie Newson were at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College today, headlining a program billed as "Technical College Partners with Area Manufacturers to Train Students for Growing Careers".

The visit marked another in a long string of appearances by Walker surrogates and the Governor himself to the area as part of his reelection campaign.

According to State Senator Dave Hansen of Green Bay:

“Despite today’s visit by Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Governor Walker’s record on higher education, job training and job creation is no cause to celebrate.

"Fewer administrations have done less for higher education and job training than Governor Walker and it shows. Financial aid has been slashed forcing more students to rely on high-priced student loans and his $70 million cut to our Technical Colleges has not only reduced the opportunity for Wisconsin residents to obtain needed job training, but made it more difficult for employers to fill current job openings.

"In addition, his opposition to a plan to reduce the skyrocketing cost of student loan debt by allowing 750,000 Wisconsin residents to refinance their student loans is costing our state an estimated $200 million annually in new car sales and the cost in lost new home sales could be even higher.

"Time and again this governor and his administration have chosen tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations over investing in education and job training opportunities that will help Wisconsin workers provide for their families, employers hire more skilled workers and create higher demand for the goods and services offered by Wisconsin businesses.

"If one is looking to learn why we’re last in the Midwest for job creation they need look no further than the failed policies of this administration.”
