MILWAUKEE – The grassroots campaign to recall Scott Walker travels to Pasadena on January 2nd, 2012 at 12:15 PM to highlight Scott Walker's historic cuts to the University of Wisconsin System.
To pay for billions in massive handouts to out-of-state corporations and the super-rich, Scott Walker has devastated Wisconsin's public education with more than $2.6 billion in draconian cuts. Just before the holidays, Scott Walker announced that he was forcing the world-class University of Wisconsin system, a pioneer in advanced biotechnology and stem-cell research, to cut an additional $49.1 million on top of more than $250 million in cuts that have already led to fewer quality programs, classes and opportunities for Wisconsin students.
To highlight the cuts, grassroots volunteers have traveled to California to hold a "Scott Walker Rose Bowl Recall Rally" and collect signatures to recall Scott Walker from Wisconsin residents and students attending the game.
"Dozens of grassroots volunteers are traveling to the Rose Bowl to enjoy the game and circulate petitions to recall Scott Walker because they know that a strong public education system is vital to Wisconsin's economic recovery," said Mike Tate, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair. "Scott Walker's extreme policies have caused Wisconsin to lead the nation in job loss, but from Wisconsin to California, Badger fans are hopeful not just for victory on January 2nd, but also for the opportunity to elect new a new governor who will invest in education and focus on creating good-paying jobs."
