MADISON – Wisconsin’s lackluster job growth under Scott Walker in 2013 is even worse than previously estimated.

That’s according to the latest analysis on Politifact Wisconsin’s “Walk-O-Meter,” which measures Walker’s progress towards his 250,000 jobs promise on a monthly basis.

The latest federal jobs data, “moved in the wrong direction when it comes to Gov. Scott Walker's promise to create 250,000 private sector jobs,” Politifact says, noting that the state’s private sector job creation in 2013 was revised down by 4,200 jobs.

The monthly report also showed Wisconsin lost nearly 700 manufacturing jobs over the most recent one-year period and gained zero private sector jobs in January, the very month that Scott Walker said "the economy is dramatically better."

“Just when we thought Scott Walker couldn’t fail any harder at his central campaign promise to create 250,000 new jobs, Wisconsin gets the bad news that we added 4,200 fewer jobs than previously estimated,” Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate said Tuesday. “This is what happens when we elect a governor with no apparent plan to grow jobs -- anemic job creation that trails the national average and a dismal forecast ahead marked by rankings of 45th in the nation in job growth prospects and 48th in new business start-ups.”
