Last November, Wisconsin Progress started working with candidates all across Wisconsin who were committed to serve their communities by running for local office.  All their hard work culminated yesterday, and the votes are in!

We helped 86 progressive champions organize and run their campaigns, and, last night, 80% of them won their races.

  • Both Kenosha and Kaukauna School Boards flipped from conservative to progressive.
  • Appleton City Council, which had been far too right for far too long, now can boast a progressive majority, including newly elected Sarah Garb and Kyle Lobner.
  • Claire Zautke, a true progressive champion, was elected to the Milwaukee School Board, unseating a conservative incumbent.
  • John Strasser, a strong progressive, unseated a 29-year incumbent, the longest on the Madison City Council.
  • New Mayor Tim Kabat will bring a progressive voice to La Crosse replacing a neo-conservative Scott Walker supporter.
  • The people of Fond du Lac elected their first LGBT city council member: Dan Manning.

We are excited to have them serving in Wisconsin and can’t wait to hear more from them soon!

Here at Wisconsin Progress we are committed to working year-round to build our bench of progressive champions.  We are the only organization in the state dedicated to this mission, and our work to support candidates for 2014 begins now!
