child-povertyGREEN BAY - An "Eliminate Child Poverty in the United States" petition is now on the White House's "We the People" website. A small group of people from Wisconsin, along with the National Alliance of Children's Trust and Prevention Funds, and the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth, has initiated this petition. We have until Sunday, June 30 to secure 25,000 electronic signatures if this petition is to be given any meaningful attention.

Excerpt:  America has more than 16 million children living in poverty, one of the highest child poverty rates in the developed world. In 2009, the U.S. rate was 21.7%, much higher than Canada (13.6%) and the United Kingdom (16.2%) therefore, we call on the President and Congress to adopt rigorous policies and system reforms that make child poverty a national priority.  Below is the URL to sign the petition. Note: You’ll need to create an account to sign, but the whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
