women-health-blackMADISON - Today, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced that they would be resuming abortion services on Monday, September 18 at both the Water Street Health Center in Milwaukee and the Madison East Health Center. This decision is pursuant to Judge Diane Schlipper’s ruling back in July which included language that stated, "There is no such thing as an '1849 Abortion Ban' in Wisconsin. A physician who performs a consensual medical abortion commits a crime only 'after the fetus or unborn child reaches viability.”

Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement on this important announcement:

melissa-agard“Today’s announcement represents a paradigm shift in the abortion landscape in Wisconsin. With the restoration of abortion services, women across the state can again have control of their own bodily autonomy, but make no mistake, this fight is not over. We must continue our uphill battle to keep comprehensive abortion services available in Wisconsin.

“Since the Dobbs decision last summer, women in Wisconsin have been denied the right to make fundamental reproductive health care decisions. This has been a scary time and one that does not adequately reflect our state’s shared values.

“We cannot rest in our efforts to protect patients and support women and doctors as they navigate private health care decisions. There is much more work that needs to be done to cement abortion access for all people living in Wisconsin.”
