GREEN BAY – Wisconsin Conservation Voters supports the work Celestine Jeffreys has done to improve voting accessibility in Green Bay and encourages the Green Bay Common Council to confirm her as city clerk.

The Green Bay clerk holds the city’s most critical role in ensuring elections are fair, free, and accessible to all of its residents. Green Bay recently expanded access to the ballot despite the logistical challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city should build upon these successes in future elections by answering calls from the public to expand early voting sites, hours, and increasing accessibility for residents who have been disenfranchised.

celestine-jeffreysWe are confident in the skills, experience, trust, and long-held relationships that Celestine Jeffreys has built over the years in the community as a former Green Bay alder, Green Bay school board member, and chief of staff for two mayors. The city has an opportunity to appoint a well qualified candidate as its clerk.

Wisconsin Conservation Voters is proud and excited to ask the common council to confirm Celestine Jeffreys. Jeffreys would become the first Black woman to serve as a municipal clerk in Green Bay's history. We encourage Green Bay to confirm Celestine Jeffreys and set the city's course on a hope filled and historic path toward a more accessible and robust democracy.
