ron-johnsonSenator Ron Johnson isn't listening to the people he represents by voting to advance the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

MADISON - After weeks of playing coy, Senator Ron Johnson today cast one of the last two votes to move forward with debate on the latest disastrous Trumpcare idea to repeal the Affordable Care Act without any plan to protect the health insurance of hundreds of thousands of hard-working Wisconsin families.

When Senator Ron Johnson woke up this morning, he had no idea what version of the bill he would ultimately be voting for. Ahead of the vote, Senator Johnson told reporters on Capitol Hill, “I don't have a clue what we're gonna be voting on." Yet, Senator Ron Johnson still voted to continue the process to take away health care from up to 32 million people.

Senator Ron Johnson isn't listening to the people he represents by voting to advance the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and strip health care insurance away from hard working Wisconsin families," said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Brandon Weathersby. "Republicans must stop abandoning everyday families. Instead, they should work with Democrats on a bill that abandons repeal, abandons cuts to Medicaid, abandons tax cuts for the wealthy, and is done in regular order and not behind closed doors."

seniorsCall or email WI Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin to urge them to vote NO on these bills!

MADISON - URGENT!  Our friends at Kids Forward (formerly Wis. Council on Children and Families) has alerted us that Tuesday the U.S. Senate will decide whether to move forward with their unpopular health care bill or vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act with no plan to replace it. Either option would result in thousands of Wisconsinites losing their health coverage:

-- The Better Care and Reconciliation Act (BCRA) would leave millions of Americans without access to affordable insurance, strangle Medicaid over the next decade, and likely weaken employer-based coverage.

-- The Obamacare Repeal Reconciliation Act (ORRA), which would repeal the Affordable Care Act without replacing it, would be even worse for Wisconsin.

Please call or email our WI senators and urge them to vote NO on these bills!

PutinDuffy told Fox News host Martha MacCallum "And my concern, Martha, is what the hell are we investigating?"

MADISON - As Attorney General Jeff Sessions begins to testify to rebut the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey, Rep. Sean Duffy doesn't seem to know what the Department of Justice is investigating in the first place.

During an interview with Fox News, Rep. Sean Duffy told host Martha MacCallum "And my concern, Martha, is what the hell are we investigating?" In the same interview, Duffy also asked, “Why are we going through this charade of an investigation when there’s no evidence that Donald Trump had anything to do with the Russians?”

TrumpPrivatizing air traffic control is just Trump's first step. He also wants to sell off our roads, bridges, and other public assets to foreign corporations and his Wall Street billionaire friends -- allowing them to put more money in their pockets.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, Trump announced his plan to sell off American roads and bridges -- even our air traffic control system!

NPR: Trump Announces Plan To Privatize Air Traffic Control

WASHINGTON POST: White House formally backs plan to transfer air traffic control system to private corporation

USA TODAY: In infrastructure push, Trump seeks to privatize air traffic control system

Privatizing air traffic control is just Trump's first step. He also wants to sell off our roads, bridges, and other public assets to foreign corporations and his Wall Street billionaire friends -- allowing them to put up new tolls and put our money in their pockets.

But we’re ready for him. We’re fighting back with a progressive plan to create MILLIONS OF JOBS by rebuilding crumbling roads and bridges, schools -- and investing in 21st century jobs like clean energy.

SIGN THE PETITION: We need massive public investment in roads, bridges, schools, and 21st century projects -- not giveaways to Wall Street and giant corporations.

For months, we’ve been a leader within the large coalition of progressive groups and members of Congress that launched the MILLIONS OF JOBS campaign and House resolution just over a week ago. We're already making big news!

USA TODAY: Democrats' infrastructure proposal contrasts with Trump's plan, budget

WASHINGTON POST: With proposed Trump cuts, chances fade for a bipartisan infrastructure deal

We're now over 30 co-sponsors on the House resolution -- up from 5 we started with!

With Trump's announcement imminent, dozens of organizations and unions worked all day Sunday on final preparations to respond in force this week in newspapers, on TV, by email and social media, and by protesting Trump at his own events.

No Democrats should support any so-called plan that's a massive giveaway to Wall Street, foreign corporations, and Trump's cronies.

Our progressive MILLIONS OF JOBS plan, announced just over a week ago will invest in creating millions of new jobs; prioritize public investment over corporate giveaways; prioritize racial and gender equity, environmental justice, and worker protections; invest in 21st century jobs such as expanding solar and wind energy, avoid support for projects that promote fossil fuel use, protect wages, prioritize the needs of urban and rural disadvantaged communities, and ensure the wealthiest Americans and giant corporations pay their fair share.

It will NOT be paid for at the expense of Social Security and other vital programs, and it will NOT weaken or repeal existing rules and laws protecting our environment, worker safety, wages, or equity hiring practices.

SIGN THE PETITION: We need massive public investment in roads, bridges, schools, and 21st century projects -- not giveaways to Wall Street and giant corporations.

Democratic leaders nationwide will showcase this petition at media events this week opposing Trump’s Wall Street giveaway plan.

We're as proud as we can be to be working on this campaign alongside the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Communications Workers of America, Center for Popular Democracy, ColorOfChange, Working Families Party, MoveOn, NextGen Climate, 350 Action, Roosevelt Institute, Demos Action, Free Press, Democracy for America, Food & Water Watch, PICO, and other organizations and unions that represent millions of Americans.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

Paul Ryan Swears House GOP To Secrecy on Trump's Ties To Russia PDF Print E-mail

donald-trumpBefore Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy commented that he thought Trump was being paid by the Russians. Ryan swears Republicans to secrecy.

MADISON - Another day, another bombshell report concerning Donald Trump's ties to Russia. According to the Washington Post, a month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination for president, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy commented that he thought Trump was being paid by Russian President Vladimir Putin - Speaker Paul Ryan immediately stopped the conversation and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

From the Washington Post
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016 exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

[..]

Some of the lawmakers laughed at McCarthy’s comment. Then McCarthy quickly added: “Swear to God.”

Ryan instructed his Republican lieutenants to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks...This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

The remarks remained secret for nearly a year.

[...]

When initially asked to comment on the exchange, Brendan Buck, a spokesman for Ryan, said: “That never happened,” and Matt Sparks, a spokesman for McCarthy, said: “The idea that McCarthy would assert this is absurd and false.”

After being told that The Post would cite a recording of the exchange, Buck, speaking for the GOP House leadership, said: “This
entire year-old exchange was clearly an attempt at humor. No one believed the majority leader was seriously asserting that Donald Trump or any of our members were being paid by the Russians. What’s more, the speaker and leadership team have repeatedly spoken out against Russia’s interference in our election, and the House continues to investigate that activity.”

“This was a failed attempt at humor,” Sparks said.
